The united states of lawlessness
13 October, 2007
Just reading a bit of Lawless World by Philippe Sands and a fact struck me. The UN declaration on the rights of the child has been signed by every country on the globe save two Somalia and the United States because it outlawed the death penalty for juvenile criminals. And the US was doing so well with the excellent Robert Reich earlier today. Now it would also be good if the states that signed it in the first place put in some more effort into making it a reality but at least they showed up at the party.
