Taken for a ride

5 January, 2009

This is an utterly brilliant film about transport in America. Ever wondered why the Americans drive their cars so much and use public transport so little? Well the answer is that General Motors brought up all the tram companies in the 1920’s and 30’s, ran the companies down and ripped up the tracks. Consequently they introduced buses which were never as good as the trams and had to share the road space with cars, GM cars as it happens. Genius.
